First Day of School
We are excited to welcome students back to East Brainerd Elementary tomorrow!
The car line will open at 8:15 and close by 8:40. At 8:40, all students will need to be dropped off at the front office. We ask that all drivers move cautiously and be on the lookout for children as we reacquaint students with school safety procedures. Our traffic director will signal families when children can exit their cars and come inside. Children should be ready to get out of their cars quickly so that we can keep the car line moving at an efficient pace. Make sure that your child has all items ready to go in the morning. If you need to help your child carry their materials and supplies, park in the lot next to the car line and walk them to the side door. The traffic director will signal pedestrians when it is safe to cross in front of the car line.
At dismissal, coach your car rider to sit silently and listen attentively for their name to be called. We will walk students outside in the order we call names. You must have your car tag hanging from your rearview mirror so that we can call your child. If you do not have a car tag, you will be directed to drive to the front of the school and pick up your child from the main office.
If your child is a bus rider, make sure they know their bus number and stop. You may find your assigned bus stop using this online tool:
http://edulog.hcde.org/livewq/webquery/. We recommend that you write this information down and store on the outside of your child’s backpack or in an easy-to-reach pocket for them to refer to.
We ask that our families be patient in the first few weeks of school as we teach students our arrival and dismissal procedures. As the largest elementary school in Hamilton County, we are proud of our students and their capacity to meet our high expectations. It may take a little longer at the beginning of the year for students to learn these expectations, but we are confident that students will quickly familiarize themselves with our procedures. Our teachers and staff look forward to working with our students and families to ensure a safe arrival and dismissal every day.
Late Registration
If a family is new to East Brainerd Elementary or is returning but has not completed registration and needs a teacher assignment, they may come to the school on Wednesday, August 10 beginning at 9:30 am until 11:00 am. We will not be able to register any students before 9:30 am as our focus will be on greeting registered students and getting them to the correct classes. Late registration will be held in our gym. Anyone who needs to come for late registration will need to enter the school from Goodwin Road and drive to the rear of the school. We will have staff available to direct families and help them complete the registration process. Please do not drive to the front office if you need to register your child; we need to keep the office open for registered students and their families.
